Electrical issue was created by Channo
Looking for some help. Have a Gpz550 1983. Completely dead yesterday and traced this down to the main fuse blown(20 amp) replaced and all good until riding home today, suddenly started missing firing and running crap as if running out of fuel. After about 10 minutes and almost home stopped completely - same fuse blown. Luckily had a spare. Replaced and got me home.

Any ldea's ?

The list of possibilities is pretty long. Looks like it is time for you to get closely acquainted with your bike's electrical system. Most of it is not terribly complicated, but you will need some patience, a decent volt/amp/Ohm meter, some small brushes and a can of Deoxit D5 electrical contact cleaner. You may also need soldering equipment, shrink wrap tubing and some high quality electrical tape, depending on what you find..

It may be something as simple as dirty and corroded contacts in the fuse box, a dirty or loose connection, or a wire about to break. It may be an electrical component on its way out that has too much resistance when hot.

A careful, systematic approach will net the best results. Search the forum for some posts by member MFolks. He has posted some good tutorials on how to approach the electrical system. Also look for some posts by member Loudvx. He has a website with a great deal of info on the 550. There is a link to it in his signature box.
