KZ1000P Electrical build HELP REQUEST
10 Jun 2016 13:54
Hi, new to this forum, great info, been lurking for a bit since I got my KZ a few months ago.
The first round was getting it fixed up and converted from its semi police state (non charging etc) when I got it.
Took it to Stugis and then colorado then back through the desert to pdx, the bike preformed amazing (got rid of the bald run flats mid trip big difference) all but for getting some wet spark plugs or something in a down pour and needing a break to dry off.
Now I am wanting to take it a step further in the build for a ride to NY.
First step is some maintenance such as new clutch/ brakes/ and some rubber bits , and building a new WIRING HARNESS.
I would like to make the electrical system really simple like a race bike or a chopper so there is nothing on the bars and no gauges and as basic as possible while keeping the battery and charging system. if i need aux for anything I can run a fuse off the battery.
The bike has a "black box" CDI unit by Mitsubishi. it is a last gen police kz 1000. title states "2008"
Any suggestions? any diagrams?
Thanks!!
Matt

Alternatively a KZ1000p wiring diagram from a 2003 bike would help. The one I am looking at from an older one doesnt include the CDI box. ??

What wiring diagram are you using? In regards to the ignition system it's probably virtually the same through the entire 1000-P model run from 82-2005. From the diagrams at Partzilla the igniter, pulsing coil, timing advancer & ignition coils are the same, but you should double check the part numbers at Kawasaki.com to verify the x-ref.
PS: the early 1000-C police models probably had points ignition.
