Spark Plug Caps ???

Which Spark Plug Caps do I need to order for my 77' KZ1000A ? Like to purchase New Coils and Spark Plug Caps and replace the Old Stock Ones that are still with the bike.

Even though the coils and caps tested to the FSM Ohm specs, now that the bike is being ran again, thought maybe New may make it run a little better still.

The Coils I like to use are the OEM replacement 4 ohm coils that Z1 Ent. sells.

I don't use resister caps. I could care less if the cager next to me gets static on his AM radio as I PASS him.

Call Z1E and verify, but I believe OEM was 90 degree caps for 1 and 4 and 120 degree caps for 2 and 3.

My Z1 had 45* and straight ones on 2/3.

I've always used copper core wires with non resistor caps too...... used Andrews, Dyna's and another main brand (that I can't seen to remember) over the years with straight caps.

Guys, does the resistance of the whole system matter?

With Dyna 3 ohm coils, should resistor caps be used, or non-resistant caps with "BR" series spark plugs, etc.? I recently switched from (PO's) BR9ES to B8ES plugs (Per owner's manual), but am now having fouling issues. Since I have no idea the resistance of the plug caps currently on the bike, I'm going to replace the whole system, but what is the right combo of coils, caps, and plugs?

The coil resistance should match the original spec otherwise you could burn the points and/or your ignitor.

Regarding the wires/caps/plugs resistance, I'm not sure about the criticality. I've always matched the OEM specs on that as well for lack of justification to deviate.

Zero resistance in the secondary loop (non-resistor plug caps; solid core plug wires; non-R spark plugs) produces the strongest spark.

The KZ's stock resistor-style plug caps are intended to reduce interference with audio signals without critical reduction of spark. They don't improve engine performance or to my knowledge enhance durability of any other ignition part.

More than one resistance component (such as adding R plugs or resistor plug wires) will likely reduce spark to less than optimum.

Good Fortune! :)

.... or so I thought. Dyna 3ohm mini coils installed, solid core wires, Non "R" plugs and caps... Runs fine, but shut it off after a 15 min ride and the battery was completely dead. Anyone know what could have caused this?
