1982 csr 305 ignition coils

I just picked up a decent low miles csr 305 guy said there was a gremlin with the wiring and i have 2 questions. First is where can i find 2 ignition coils for it thats relatively cheap but decent quality? The one for cyl 2 was burning smoking and was bad and id like to replace both with new coils. Secondly i hooked up a coil from my parts kz750 and hooked that up and she fired up and ran (although it was arking from the missing wire from the 2 post) but when i suspended the coil the key ring was arking along the handlebars. Is it related to the other coil im using? If not what is the cause of it and how can i fix that. Thanks in advance.

The best place I have found for coils is www.Z1enterprises.com or eBay. I just got some from Z1 and am pretty happy . Pictures of the setup and where it is arcing could go a long way. As long as the coils are both the same resistance i.e. 5 ohm you shouldn't damage anything at least but a lower resistance could cause some real problems. I would suggest going through and cleaning the ignition switch and the handlebar switches really good. I had a spider lay eggs in one of my handlebars one winter and it took me forever to figure out that was the problem and boy did it really cause a problem.
- good luck
