electronic ignition

This could be engine - could be electrical - wasnt sure where to go with it. Working on a 76 kz750 and I think I have all my carb problems sorted out. I actually thought I had all my spark problems sorted out too but when i still couldnt get it to run I started my troubleshooting over again and found that now my spark was incredibly anemic and intermittent. I've tried following the procedures in the book - again - for adjusting the points and I've made sure they are nice and clean, but still no luck. I've seen the Dyna S system on ebay and stuff but they want more for that than I paid for the bike and my budget simply doesnt have that kind of room in it. And according to that company they dont actually make one that will work for this bike. I'm sure it can be done buy the price tag is still way out of my reach. They pointed me in the direction of another company - boyer bransden - and said they can probably help me. Sure enough they can - again for a price way outside my budget. I got to looking around to see what other people have done and came up to this

lots of people saying they have had good luck with this kit and best of all - its cheap. I found a very awesome person that posted a schematic for this circuit and for an even smaller price tag I can build one myself - yay. I am curious to know if any of you folks out there have ever used such a kit and what your experiences were.

For those of you electronically inclined folks here is the diagram of the circuit. the only difference is I will be preplacing the TIP162 with a BU941ZPFI.

appreciate all your thoughts - everyone here has been very helpful with this motorcycle so far.

It seems unnecessary to me because points work fine when properly adjusted. If the problems you are experiencing are related to points and you install the parts in the link the ignition system will still not work well until you correct the problem with the points. This is because the system in question relies on the points as an integral part of the system.

My suggestion is to first positively identify the source of the problem keeping in mind it could be the coil, connectors in the wiring, problems in the right hand handlebar control, etc. If you positively identify the problem as being with the points replace them and the condenser with new units and properly adjust them. That should eliminate the problem. If you then decide you want to add the components in the link you can do so and they should work, but until you solve the existing problem they won't work. Ed
