Kz550 brake switch?
04 May 2016 13:00
Hey everyone
My 1981 kz550's brake light on the tach has been flashing for a while now. Ive narrowed the problem down to a rectangular shaped brake sensor of some sort behind the left side cover. I'm trying to find the part on ebay to get another but I'm not sure what its called to look it up. Does anyone know the name of the part?

Take a look at the diagram in the link below. Does the part in question look like any on that chart? Ed

I believe it's the outage indicator switch. Thanks Ed

Maybe the problem is that switch, but I think the flashing brake warning light means the outage indicator switch is working & it is warning you that the brake light circuit or the brake light itself is defective. It could be as simple as a bad brake light bulb. or maybe the wrong bulb was installed. or maybe an LED. ???

The brake light is functioning as it should with an original bulb. The light will shut off if I'm able to jiggle the outage switch to the right angle. The vibrations from the the engine always nudge it out of place causing the warning light to flash

My mistake then. You've probably already checked, but I would remove the plastic connector & examine the terminal pins & wires, in case one of them is damaged or worn or something. or the wire cover could be hiding some wire damage. ???
and also check the wire harness connector & pins n stuff.
