Generator Rotor Repair ???

Can a cracked generator rotor be repaired ? My 77's rear face of the generator rotor was cracked all around the area of the 3 bolts that hold the starter clutch to it. Thus having a lot of side to side play.

Trying to locate a replacement !!!

I don't think that's repairable by normal humans. There are magnets in the rotor so that makes welding difficult plus it's rotationally balanced.

Nessism, If it's like a harmonic balancer that is balanced rotationally, then probably not? My cracks are at the rear of the rotor and not on the sides where the magnets are located. Just didn't know if anybody tried it?

If anyone has a spare generator, please let me know.

I put blue lock tight in mine. Let it soak in. I looked at the ones you posted. I didn't see any magnets.

Steve, the gaps or cracks as I have described on the back side of the rotor are large enough to allow the play we talked about earlier. What about JB Weld or something similar? Did you have good success with you fix?

It has to get all the way inside. I tried peening around them and this. It makes a clacking noise off and on. If I could find one new for a decent price, I'd buy it. Was watching a NOS for $275 but couldn't afford it. The used ones mostly have the cracks in them or are starting. I should have sent the last one back to paidin.

Steve, I was able to locate a starter clutch and rotor assembly off eBay. purchased it and should be here in a couple of days. Rotor from the pictures looks good and solid as seller was able to verify.

Even though this assembly comes with the 3 allen head bolts, i was able to find metric replacements at a hardware store. Appear to be in same hardness as the stock bolts. Question, when I rebuild this starter clutch with the new rebuild kit I purchased, do I use Red Locktite on the bolt threads to prevent them from potentially backing out again ?

Also, this rotor and starter clutch doesn't come with the rubber damper on the back side of the starter gear. My stock one appears fine and pliable ( size is 2 ** ). I'm assuming I just reuse mine that I have ?

I should also say that this kit I purchased didn't come with the woodruff key either but mine is good. Do I re-use that too ?

Steve, Comes with starter clutch, rotor, starter clutch gear, needle bearing and spacers. Just didn't have the rear rubber damper and spacer. I have all those pieces anyway. Just didn't know if I would need a different sized rubber damper?

I sent the sell of the new one you talked about. Here's his answer.
Hello

your factory part should look similar. What is your exact year make and model?

Best Regards
I asked him where are the magnets? I don't think there are any.
