kz550 b2 coil resistance? was created by zirafin
halo i try to find info on manual but its not acuate for me :( i want to know if its good parts o bad.

1. coils in my first picture i check the resistance on coil + an - its 2.6 and other coil is 2.5 ohm-- its ok ??? ORE bad?

2. coils spark wires the 3 pictures ,resistance on 1 and 4 cylinder wires = 21.5 and on 2-3 cylinder its 21.5 ohm-- its ok ore bad??

3. picup coils i tested like in manual :
Remove the right-hand side cover and
disconnect the 4-pole pickup coil connector
(Figure 20).
2. With an ohmmeter set at Rx100, measure
the resistance between the 2 pairs of leads:
black and blue (No. 1 and 4) and yellow and
red (No. 2 and 3). The resistance should be
400-500 ohms.

i have 424 and 431 so it s ok.

Each plug cap has a resistor. Each should be around 4 to 6 k typically, but I don't know the actual spec. It should be in the manual.

Each wire is copper/zinc plated steel, so the wire, itself, should be near 0 ohms. (But you still have the caps attached.)

The high tension side of the coils will be 11k ohm to 13k ohm, typically, but I don't know the actual spec. It should be in the manual.

The primary side of each coil should be around 2.3 to 2.6 ohms, typically, but the manual gives a range centered on 2.3.

Either way, they look to be old, and passing resistance checks does not confirm a coil is good.

The resistance readings look okay to me.

As noted by loudhvx, passing resistance checks does not confirm a coil is good.
My understanding is that a resistance check can show a shorted or open winding inside the coil, but does not test for possible high voltage shorts due to insulation breakdown under normal operating conditions.

The dealer service shop likely has an electrotester to test the coil's ability to produce a given spark under load.
For example, a Z1 coil should produce at least a 7 mm (.28 inch) spark.
Specs for the KZ550-B2 coils at hand are perhaps shown in the manual.

I don't see any obvious cracks in the coils. But if cracked, will invite moisture intrusion which shortens life of the coil and causes poor performance when damp.

Good Fortune! :)

Yes it should work. You will need new wires. The original wires were probably 7mm. The new wires might be 8mm.

I recommend suppression wire with plain caps.
