I have just completed carb cleaning and thought I would try a start up on this bike to see if it will even run.
When I went to connect the battery, key off, I had a total short and arc at the battery. The rectifier wires and modular plug was warm even after just 2-3 sec of contact. A kinda smell but no fire or burns. I disconnected the reg/rec and had all keyed components and starter turned. So my question is what do you think I should check first? I am thinking bad reg/rec, but am guessing someone may have BTDT. Any input appreciated,. I will be combing over the loom and wires in the next few days, weeks, etc. The overall wiring condition on the bike is good. Some brittle connectors and direct. Dyna 3.0 ohm coils. Also I removed a Vetter from fairing. Its electrical connections cam off without a hassle. R
