New battery advice needed. was created by davido
Im looking to fit a new battery in my project KZ1000 CSR (81) . I want something physically smaller (the smaller the better) but with equal , power to the original
From what I can find on the interweb, the standard CSR battery was 12volt,18Ah. I dont know what the original CCA was but the normal replacements on offer ,range from 235 to 310 CCA
Can anybody help me out here as batteries are a dark art to me.
Thanks

The best battery for the money are the Scorpion AGM batteries, but they are pretty much standard size. If the battery MUST be smaller, your only option is to go with the very pricey Lithium batteries. Some have worked well, others fail often, and the price is 3X or 4X of AGM.

The Shorai LI-ION batteries are tiny, I can be mounted in any position, sideways, even upside down , but they are pricey & need a special charger
They are as tall as a pack of 100's cig's

& are as wide as a pack of cig's

& only weight 1 & 3/4 #'s

If you do use a Lithium (Shorai or other) battery be sure your bike's electrical system is up to snuff. Ed

Seems like there are some threads around here on LIon batteries. I seem to recall that they are very sensitive to charging voltage and that they can be problematic in really cold weather.

I just purchased a Scorpion AGM battery for my bike. I can only comment on the quality so far...it looks well made.
