Tachometer install

Hello all, I have a 1977 kawasaki z750 twin, my speedo took a crap so I pulled it off and installed a phone mount, and just use a gps/speedometer app, I love this works great, now I want to replace my shaky tachometer with a Chinese after market unit, it's smaller and better looking on my set up, my question is two fold.... The unit has positive/red wire and negotiate/black wire for the internal led, then it has a yellow signal wire? Does that connect to the coil? My bike has points btw. And I remember reading something about this bike having a "wasted spark" will give a inaccurate reading with this tach? I still have the stock cable driven one installed. Just wanted to ask before I order this thing. Thanks in advance.

Recently I installed $10 tachometer on 98 Vulcan 1500.
It worked fine except it had 2-4 seconds delay,
I wanted it installed to check idle, so it was doing its job.
