78 kz650d wiring issue please help was created by jtkz78
Hello people I'm justin I just bought a 78 kawasaki kz650 d for a steal of a price. I tried to Jumpstart it with my car. The bike lit up nice every light worked turned over wanted to start sounded like only two cylinders were firing. So I figured since the bike sat awhile the carbs needed cleaning. Sure enough a ton of dirt some clogging gas passageways. Excited as hell I tried jumping it again and nothing no power to the lights or ignnition. I had to wedge a nail In The positive terminal on the battery for the jumper cables to grab and turns out it was touching the frame. I think I shorted somthing. I tested all the relays changed a fuse and went through all the wiring. I can hot jump it with a screwdriver at the sylinoid turns over but no spark. Could I have blow my rectifier or my ignition please help..

I replaced all fuses even one wrapped up in the harness. I pulled the 6 pin ignition conect ion behind the head light ran my tester from the positive on battery terminal to each pin on the harness side of the conect ion and got a circut in 4 out of 6 wires. 1 of 2 red and the other green with yellow strip. Also tested ground circus and got same result. The only thing I haven't tested is the regulator/rectifier

You need a battery first.

DO NOT TRY TO JUMP START THE BIKE FROM A RUNNING VEHICLE OR A BATTERY CHARGER! You can damage the bike's electrical system. Either shut off the car or better yet, buy a new battery for the bike. Ed
