guage color change was created by toyotakzrider
Hey everyone,

Has anyone ever successfully changed the color of the backlight on their gauges? I notice mine has clear bulbs but lights up green. I'm so tired of 80's japanese green. My old toyotas are the same color and I always change them.

thanks
Eric

You can try red or blue LED's. I put them in my Tach And Speedo. I CAN SEE THEM AT NIGHT NOW. :woohoo:

that's what I was thinking about. but how does that get rid of the green? The bulbs aren't green, they are clear normally. but the guage faces light up green anwyay.

OK you obviously never have taken an instrument apart.
They are all painted with a very light colored flat green inside that reflects the white.

I liked the Kaw instrument colors in 75. They were different than the rest. B) My daughter's Chevy Malibu has red. I think I'll buy some green LED's for it. :woohoo:

Christina's favorite color is green. Maybe I'll borrow the car, change them and not say anything about it.

Been running blue LEDs in mine for ages. I hated that dingy green color. Even my indicator lights are LED (warm white). Some LED wedge lights are way brighter than incandescent bulbs. Too bright even. Unfortunately (and this seems to be true with all LED bulbs), there's really no way to know how bright it's going to be until you plug it in, because all the luminosity numbers (if they're even provided) are pure BS.

So I guess in order to change it. They have to be disassembled to remove the green coloring....that sucks

Not at all. The green filter in the face isn't pure green and isn't very strong. Blue shines through easily. I haven't tried red, but I believe it would shine through fine, perhaps not as brightly. The only color you definitely can't make them without some kind of modification is white (for that you'd need a new faces that aren't printed on green plastic)
