Stator, Reg rec question
27 Aug 2015 15:45
While I save up the money to start putting the kz back together, I've been thinking about the charging system.
Since I'm not gonna have any turnsignals, LED headlight, standard rear tailight, Dynatek coils, and Dyna-s ignition. Am I going to have to get a different stator or reg rec since it;s not going to have as much power draw. I've read that by reducing power draw you put more stress on the reg rec, because it's not able to get id of the extra voltage.

RR unit will shunt and dump excess power, losing the winkers is negligible . Likewise if you chose to run headlights on during the daytime, or leave them off. (unless it is one of the goofy US spec with permanent lights on)
You might be overthinking this. Dyna S uses quite a bit more current over stock anyway, I wouldn't worry about it.
Worst case scenario, it reduce the service life of your RR unit...some of mine are 30 years plus old now...they are pretty cheap and any 3 phase unit can be fitted, a lot cheaper than a new stator. Besides, some new stators give higher charging currents anyway.
