Condensers! was created by BCbikes
Hey Everyone.
So I was riding my bike (1980 kz550) when all the sudden it started misfiring and backfiring!
I have found that one set of points has a spark that appears to be way to strong, while the other set has no spark. What has happened? and what would cause this to happen?
I run a relay to the coils because I wasn't getting full power to the coils.

A open condenser can definitely cause that. If the high tension side of the coil is internally shorted, that might cause it.
Are you sure the points that are arcing more are the ones that control the cylinders that are misfiring?
Spray water on the exhaust headers to figure out which ones are not firing.
I think:
The set of points toward the front of the bike fire cylinders 2 and 3.
The set of points toward the rear of the bike fire cylinders 1 and 4.
You can confirm the bad points/condenser by disconnecting one set and see if the bike still runs. If not, then that was the good set.
