Coil for a KZ305

So my 82 KZ305CSR is out of commission. My 20 year old son left the ignition switch on overnight drained the battery and the coil for the left cylinder is now dead. I found several coils for GPZ305s on ebay. I hear you can remove the plug wire and change the length of it. Can this be done? How do I do this? Do I have any other options? Or do I have to hold our for a left side coil with the long plug wire?

Thanks,
HH

Take a close look at your coil. If there is a knurled collar where the plug wire enters the coil then this can be unscrewed and the wire removed and replaced. If no collar then google "ngk wire splice" which should be easy to find

[strike]Most 80s models with electronic ignition have the ribbed compression boots, so you can easily remove/cut/replace the spark plug wires. [/strike]

Edit: I had assumed your bike had electronic ignition, but from the diagrams the 82 305-B1 CSR has points, and the spark plug wires are molded into the coils & cannot be removed. Z1Enterprises.com sells spark plug wire splicers.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI am looking at this on ebay:

I think it would work. But, it only has one terminal to wire up??? How does that work? Wouldn't it need +12V and the points connections?

Thanks,
HH

The 87 GPz305 has electronic ignition (pretty sure), so those coils probably aren't suitable for points ignition.
I wouldn't buy old used coils. Just an FYI: you might be able to convert your bike to electronic ignition.
