Pickups are on the Rt side crankcase where the crankshaft end is. It's where the points used to be.
I don't have a plan and I'm sticken' to it! '77 KZ 650 / 750 GPz custom project in progress

Im no expert but I noticed on my 750 4cl my coil wires are not wired like yours.
Mine are left side red wire bottom of coil and right side red wire top of coil
red leads go to ( + )
green and black to ( - )
( I believe the left one is wrong ---- page 76 in my clymer )
But asked the Expert

The Kawasaki Factory a service Manual covers thse diagnostics and a lot more. It will be the most important tool you buy for this project. Avoid the aftermarket manuals, get the genuine Kawasaki one.

Here's a site w a pdf manual & wiring diagrams. mbsween. bike-night. KZ750L3 page
Scroll down & click "The Bible" link. Note: some of the wiring diagrams are mislabeled in the links.
The 1981 Ltd is an H2, the 82 is an H3, & the 83 is an H4. .... search tags mbsween KZ750L3
.

The bike needs a good, fully charged battery to run right.
If the voltage regulator is shot, you can install one from a late model Ninja 500 or Vulcan 500 et al (loudhvx).
The manual has resistance checks for the ignition coils which can test fine cold, but they could still need replacing.
If there's a high speed miss, stop & feel the coils, press hard with your fingers --- they should be warm, not hot. The grey Dyna 2.2 ohm coils are the best match for the stock electronic ignition, but you can use the green 3.0 ohm.

Right side coil = #1 & #4 spark plug wires. red & black primary/igniter wires.
Left side coil .= #2 & #3 spark plug wires. red & green primary/igniter wires.
The stock coils are embossed with (+) & (-), but I don't think it matters.
