Kz550 won't crank

I picked up a barn find condition 81 kz440 yesterday and I plopped a battery in it, and all the lights work but the left blinker only actually blinks have the time. And the horn won't work. But my main concern is the starter won't even sound like it's trying to engage. I haven't really dug deep into this bike yet, but anyone know where to start? Thanks guys
