Z500B, electrical part, was created by kawaidioot
Hello everybody,
It has been a while since I was here.
I still ride my KZ750’s and last year I bought a beautiful Z500B.
And about this bike I have a question.
This nice bike gave me a little problem last week. But that is sorted out.
The problem was the loading of the battery. Corrosion of a connector.
With all the wiring checked, I found a electrical part that I never have seen before.
It’s that green cylindrical thing with blue wires. It’s hidden under the fuel tank (at the front).
Can anybody tell me what it is and what it does.
I have this Kawasaki service manual, (420 pages), but I just can’t find it.
Greetings, Gerard.

Great looking 500!
There is a bunch of info in my signature for that bike.
Some European KZ's got an inline resistor for the headlight.
This diagram (Kz500B1) shows it inline with the blue wire, here:
home.comcast.net/~loudgpz/GPZweb/Mnls/Kz...z400500550wires.html
There is a mistake on the diagram. The resistor section should be labeled with an * to identify it as European. The straight blue wire (slightly down and to the right of the resistor ) is the Non-Euro version, and is correctly marked with a circled, capital O.
Pull one wire off of the resistor and see if the headlight stops working. Then, at least, you'll know if that's what it is.

Thank you very much for this reply.
I tested it immediately, and you are right on the spot. It's an inline resistor for the headlight.
The link to the coloured diagram is very helpful also. The ones I have are in black&white.
The bike is indeed in good condition and has it's original paint and decals.
Like so much other motorcycles, the exhaust is the only thing that was changed due to corrosion to the original.
Thanks again.
Gerard.

Glad it helped. Be sure to read the valve train warning before removing the valve cover. Since you have a 750, you may already be aware of the issue.
