Regulator Rectifier installation
16 May 2015 20:16
Hello KZ'rs,
OK,..I recently installed a combo Reg/Rec from Z1. Pretty easy to install. 3 yellow wires to stator and 2 green to neg battery and 2 red to Pos battery.
After installation,... my battery went dead so I measured the battery and it reads only 12.5 volts and with engine revving I still only get 12.5 across the battery so the Reg/REc is not charging the battery,...I was especting about 14V across battery from REg/Rec. Stator voltage to REg/Rec varies from 15 - 30 when rev'ing the engine easuring each wire from the other.
But if I disconnet the wires and measure the voltage I am reading 3.9 Volts as in pic. What is going on?
Is this new Reg/REc faulty?
I did not ground the Reg/REc to the frame,...except the bolts securing the unit of course.
Any additional testing advice would be appreciated before I buy a new one.

The one I bought from Z1 does not have the sensing line.

Pic of your connecting blocks and old mounts. Did you have separate regulator/rectifier? Did the give you instructions?

OK,...So I removed the Reg/Rec from the bike and checked out my splice job. It turns out that a couple of wires were not connected properly. So, I re-crimped the wires and everything appears to be working fine now. Eventually I plan to solder the wires but for now the bike is good for riding and the weather is nce out so I'll put that on my to do list.
Thanks everyone.
