LED Headlamp install 1980 KZ750

Using the semi-sealed OEM light fixture and just changing the bulb!
This worked out very well. It was a bit of a struggle getting the wires situated in the housing. I then moved the female headlamp connector outside the headlamp housing and weather-proofed the connection.
So far, daytime is very clean and bright. I will ride at night and update soon.

Interesting. Let us know how the light pattern is at night. It is normally recommended that a LED specific headlight reflector and lens be used with an LED lamp in order to direct the light properly, so you might see a different light pattern than the regular halogen bulb would throw. Ed

I am also interested in how this plays out. I have never had an inexpensive LED last longer than a regular light bulb.

Heat is the real issue for the longevity of the bulb. I know I was looking at those but the good bulbs w/ a heat sink on them were a $100+ and we're not DOT certified. I sent the extra jack and went with the Truck-Lights 7" round LED sealed light replacement. They are super bright have a good pattern and use way less voltage.
Would like to see some night pics if you can manage.

+1 Many folks don't realize heat is such a problem for LEDs because if you hold your hand in front of one it doesn't feel hot like an incandescent lamp. The problem is the heat builds in the LED junction, so you most likely won't feel much with your hand in front of the LED. Thermal management of the LED is crucial to its longevity, and even though the LED may not fail (as in burn out) if run in an over heated condition the elevated junction temperature will lead to its early deterioration and lower light output. Of course, good heat management can prevent these problems. Some of the big boy LEDS are even liquid cooled. Ed

Hi, I know this is an old post but I am wondering how is the life span, mounting and satisfaction anyone has had with their LED lamps? Headlamp, turn/running, brake/stop and gauges ?

LED is similar to a semiconductor. The oldrule of thumb was op life dropped by about 1/2 for each 10C rise in operating temp. Problem is the max limit for safe junction temp is about 140C so you have to have enough heatsink to keep it below that. Vibration is also a killer but that's a given for anything on a bike.

I installed LED lamps for turn signals/running lamps and gauge lamps. 100% so far.
