How to hook up new coil?

Hello everyone, I just received my new coil from eBay, my question is Wich wire goes to to breaker? There is a yellow wire and a black one, it's a cheap Chinese coil and both wires are connected to the coil with spade connectors, with no markings on the coil indicating polarity, thanks in advance.

Coil primary terminals (small wires) are non-polar, so either wire may attach to either terminal.

I'd guess either it doesn't matter, or black is pos (+) & yellow is neg (-).

Here's a way to test an ignition coil. hondatwins.net --- CB360 Ignition Coils -- see diagram in reply #1

Yep, no polarity on ignition coils(although on twin coil set ups, it's best to have them wired the same).

The stock ignition coils from my 81 650-CSR are embossed w (+) & (-) and the manual makes reference to the polarity.

Chinese made? I'd trust Accel, or Dyna before any Chinese electrical product(if possible).

Here's an example from a KZ650 FSM:

:unsure: I don't know (but would like to learn more about):
why the primary terminals are labeled with polarity;
why the secondary circuit high tension spark plug wires are labeled with polarity;
the difference between these polarity labeled ignition coils and the more common non-polar ignition coils.

Ignition coil polarity isn't shown on the wiring diagram.

Good Fortune! :)

The positive, primary terminal should be on the north side of the bike (negative terminal - south).

The positive, secondary wire should go to the plug that fires first (negative wire - second).

Ok guys here is the deal, the second China coil is garbage as well, i put my stock one back in and runs fine despite it being cracked (why I'm replacing it) so I know both China coils where d.o.a,i was looking at the dyna coil, there are a couple for under a hundred Wich I can swing, could someone please tell me the correct one to get? 1977 KZ750 twin, points ignition, or any specific one you guys have liked? I have already wasted a month and money just to save a couple bucks. I would like something that basically fits in the stock location, thanks, Nathan

Black 5-ohm Dyna coil with dual output.
www.z1enterprises.com/ItemDetails.aspx?i...&item=DYDC8-1-single

I can't swear to the exact physical fit. Do you know the bolt-hole spacing on your frame?

There is also a cheaper, 4-ohm coil by Emgo, but I couldn't find it on Z1 Enterprises site.

By any chance did you try that Honda forums test to see if the coil w fire a spark plug?
Also, in that link theres a reference to an ignition coil available at Mikes XS650.
