KZ750 Electrical rebuild
06 Sep 2014 17:31
I have a 1982 KZ750 LTD. I have no electrical know how outside of watching MrMaxStorey on youtube. So bear with me if this is a stupid question. I am wanted to move my battery into the seat unless you would recommend otherwise. I am wondering if this will all play well with one another? Or if you had a better suggestion.

The stock Ltd seat has a metal seat pan. I can't exactly visualize how you plan to mount it --- putting the battery there doesn't seem like a good idea to me, but what do I know.
With the Dyna S you'll also need the green Dyna 3.0 ohm coils.
Z1Enterprises.com carries the Dyna stuff & their prices may be better than other places.
Have you verified that there's a problem w the pulsing coil or igniter? The stock Kawasaki ignition system is supposed to be good, but the ignition coils typically need replacement.
I guess the Rick's voltage regulator is guaranteed to be a direct fit? If so, that would be easy.
To save some money you can use the voltage regulator from a Ninja 500 or
Vulcan 500 up to 2009 (credit to loudhvx).

I'm building a cafe seat from fiberglass so the passenger seat area is no longer a seat but should hide a majority of the electrical component (in theory)
I haven't tested anything yet I just got a voltmeter today so that's on my to do list but I've gone through 2 batteries since february and from what i've read on here if one thing goes there is a good chance the other components are shot. I'm tired of it not starting so i figured i'd start from the ground up

What type of batteries --- wet cell or AGM or what?
Did you properly service the batteries prior to putting them to use?

Had a Superstart and an everready lead/acid battery both made it just over three months and died. They were both charged correctly from the start and installed correctly. never jumped from a vehicle or anything outside the bike.

What battery charger? It should be suitable for a motorcycle battery.
After the first battery failed, the charging system checks should have been done.
I would perform the alternator & voltage regulator tests outlined in the service manual. easy stuff.
My next battery is probably going to be a Scorpion AGM. batterystuff.com - KZ650-H CSR
Ignition system. The bike needs a good, properly charged battery to run right.
