82 Kawasaki kz550 LTD fuses
31 Jul 2014 19:29
I'm having trouble finding a fuses on my 82 kawasaki kz 550 ltd. I blew the two 10 amp and one 20 amp glass tube fuses. Now I am having trouble finding the correct length of fuse. Can I use typical car 10 and 20 amp fuses? Please let me know what fuses to replace these with.

Should say right on your old fuse, the type AGX and the amp rating 20. AGX is the shorter glass fuse that you are seeking.

Take a look at the metal caps on the original fuses and post the letters/numbers you find. Someone should be able to help you find the correct ones for your bike. Ed

The auto parts stores around here only have mixed bag assortments w too many useless fuses.
Amazon.com is where I ended up getting them.
AGX = 1" (main fuse box).
AGC = 1-1/4" (acc fuse box on my 81 650)
It's very annoying that Kawasaki used 2 different fuse lengths. doh.

That's very interesting. My KZ650-C1 uses all 1 inch fuses. One 20A and two 10A fuses. Ed

I guess the C1 doesn't have an acc fuse box? My main fuses are the same as yours, but not the acc.
In the diagrams for the H1 CSR they give the size of the acc fuses as 10A L=30mm & I've measured them.

Correct. The C1 has only the one fuse box for 3 fuses (plus a couple spares). Ed

If you don't have spare fuses, you might want to go ahead & get some somewhere. It could be a nuisance to not have something as basic as spare fuses. Plus the originals are old & they can fail from age. so you might want to get plenty of spares, then go ahead & install all new fuses..
Blade fuses would be preferable as they are available everywhere & more durable, but replacing the fuse box would be a bit of a job. to me anyway.
