Hi Guys,

I am looking to replace the hand controls on my 1980 KZ1000P, Looks like stock parts are really expensive, does anyone know of somewhere to find replacements? Looking for brake, master cylinder, switches and wiring, clutch lever and switches on the other side. I really appreciate any input.

Thanks Guys, Brendan.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationK & S has some very good switches, I use their 12-0030 and 12-0203 on my projects.

For the front mastercylinder, I get OEM late model parts from Ebay. I like the adjustable levers on some of the newer parts.

The clutch lever assembly from a ninja 500 is a good way to go because it has an adjustable lever and they are not expensive. New ones are as low as $36 on line.

Most of the parts from China are not very good.

There are tons of used KZ hand controls on ebay. The switches are not overly difficult to take apart and clean up. I bought a couple spares, and went though my old ones at the same time. Dielectric grease on all the contacts and the switches are good to go. I believe this is the easier route than adapting an aftermarket switch, or converting a different model switch to work on your bike.

Nessism, What did you use to prep then paint your hand controls? From the looks of the pictures, they turned out real nice!

I didn't paint them. Took a dremel with brush attachment and renewed the plastic material. A plastic brush works okay, but you may need something like a brass brush too.

My hand controls are pretty scratched up and need more than just polishing. Is there something you may recommend to prep and paint the controls?

Yup, those early controls have metal bodies that are repaintable. The later bikes have hand controls made from FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) material and were not painted from new (although you could do so yourself). The lettering on these later controls is painted on, so not easy to replicate if such details are important to you.
