How do I simplify this headlight switch? 82 kz750
14 Jul 2014 20:12 - 15 Jul 2014 19:40
So I have this 82 kz750. Recently built it and this is basically the last thing on the list. As you can see their are two switches. The one on the right is just an on/off switch for the headlights. This has to be turned on for the head lights to work. Then on the left there is another set of switches. I ditched the horn but it did work along with the button. Next is a switch for turn signals. The bike didn't have turn signals when I got it. No idea if the switch for it works. Finally is the on/off/high beam/ low beam switch. It has three positions. From bottom the top. Off, low beam, high beam. If it's set to off the headlights are off. If the switch on the right is off this high beam/ low beam switch doesn't have power. I want to simplify. Ideal situation is to just have a switch for off/ low beam/ high beam. A drawing would be great. Thanks.

You may desire form over function and may not be concerned about safety, but even if that is true I wouldn't ditch the high/low beam capability. Here's why - let's say you're riding along on a curvy road at night. It's very dark out, but you headlight is providing safe passage. Then without warning - POOOF - it's pitch black in front of you because the filament in the headlight that was lighting your way burned out (as EVERY one will eventually do). In a nanosecond you flip the hi / low switch and the other filament lights the way keeping your butt out of trouble. BUT, if there is no switch - oh crap!
If you ride long enough this will happen. It has happened 3 times to me and thankfully I had the hi/low switch. Ed

At least my KZ750 has the reserve light unit. It is there to turn on the high beam (but with only 5 volts instead of 12v, so don't flash incoming drivers) in case the low beam goes out.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configuration
How about something like this - OFF/HIGH/LOW & Kill switch. Ed

I like the ebay switch but not feeling the extra kill switch button. If their is something without that would be perfect.
