You will need a voltmeter to verify there is 12V getting to the hot side of the coil primary (both coils) that wire is usually red or yellow red. The neg coil wire is usually blue and that is the side that the points switch to ground.
If you don't have 12V on the coils, use the meter to walk back along the current path to see where the voltage is and that will tell you where the open circuit is.

Not necessarily. I would disconnect the battery and do some Ohm readings on the neg coil terminals. Ohm to ground and see if the reading is short circuit with points closed and open circuit with points open.Robby11695 wrote: I checked the wires at the primary side, and with one lead on the red and yellow, the other on the black or green wire for each coil. Both Coils are getting 12 volts to them, or rather 11, though this may just be a non-charged battery causing less than 12 volts. Does this mean that my points and condenser are working, and that my coils are both bad?
