I am trying to get my 79 650D to spark. Currently I am unsuccessful. The Engine will turn over, but I pulled the plugs to check for spark against the heads, and there is nothing. I was wondering if anyone has tips on how to test the points on the bike. I've tried to test the coils, but the resistance along the secondary wires is non-existent. Not sure if fault of improper testing or not. I do not currently have access to an owner's manual, though I do know I will need one soon. Any information that can help me get this bike on the road will be greatly appreciated

Ever replace your bike's fuses? If no, then they are long overdue. Most auto parts stores can get them for you. They are the AGX size, and some boating supply stores carry them too. Probably 10,15, and maybe 20 amp ratings are what you'll need. The more easily available AGC size may not fit. as they are longer in length. AGX is 1" long, and the AGC is 1 1/4" long.

Since it's a four cylinder, you have two complete ignition systems failing to produce spark so it indicates the main power feeds and the fuse is the first thing to check. Also check ig switch and harness connections.

You will need a voltmeter to verify there is 12V getting to the hot side of the coil primary (both coils) that wire is usually red or yellow red. The neg coil wire is usually blue and that is the side that the points switch to ground.

If you don't have 12V on the coils, use the meter to walk back along the current path to see where the voltage is and that will tell you where the open circuit is.

I checked the wires at the primary side, and with one lead on the red and yellow, the other on the black or green wire for each coil. Both Coils are getting 12 volts to them, or rather 11, though this may just be a non-charged battery causing less than 12 volts. Does this mean that my points and condenser are working, and that my coils are both bad?

Eleven volts may not be enough. These systems really need twelve or more to functionproperly. You should have 12.5 - 13.5 at the battery. If lower, give it a charge and take new readings. MFolks has posted several good electrical system how-tos on this site.

Not necessarily. I would disconnect the battery and do some Ohm readings on the neg coil terminals. Ohm to ground and see if the reading is short circuit with points closed and open circuit with points open.
