82 KZ1000-K2 Turn Signal Issue
27 Jun 2014 03:26
Hey all. Just picked this bike up last weekend. Last issue is turn signals. left turn signal works fine front and back. Right side isn't working, though right front running light is on. Is there a separate flasher for right side? Can someone provide a wiring diagram?
Thanks
Nick

There is one flasher unit that controls both sides. Check the right side front/rear bulbs and the wiring - it could be a disconnected wire, bad connector, or possibly a bad ground on the rear signal. If the bulbs are good (you can swap in the ones from the left side to check) I would start tracing the wiring from the turn signal stalks. Ed

Thanks for the diagram. Bulbs are good front and back. The rear bulbs are dual-filament, but I believe should be single. As mentioned earlier, the left side works OK.
Thanks

Re: 82 KZ1000-K2 Turn Signal Issue
27 Jun 2014 06:08I believe you'll find that the front signals should be dual element and the rear single. In the front, you should have running/ marker amber lights on with the headlight. Then turn signals. In the rear they're just turn signals. Look inside at the bulb socket, you can see if it is a single or dual bulb connection by the center of the socket where the bulb touches.nicksorg wrote: Thanks for the diagram. Correct. The front are marker and turn signals with dual element bulbs. The rear are turn signals only. Knowing that there is only one flasher, I need to do some more troubleshooting.
Thanks

All fixed. It was a number of things:
After-market bullet signals in the front were not wired correctly. I also removed the stock rear turn signals and cleaned the internal connections and mating surfaces. All signals now function correctly. Thanks for all the input.
