kz1000 Stator help. Frustrated. was created by mayday119
Hey guys, Quick back story. The bike is a kz1000. the title reads '82 but i know its a hybrid build and hard to identify the exact year of alot of the parts. Im in the process of an overhaul. I have been chasing an electrical problem for the better part of a month now. I have replaced the coils, plugs , wires as well as the regulator. Now whats left is the stator. Everything else is new. Theres no ground problems, there are no shorts or wrong connections. Iv ordered a stator twice now, Based on 2 different models. One was an '82 based upon the title I figured it was. But why would it be that easy right? Turns out it was the wrong one, To large. So i called the original owner, Turns out he said the motor was a kz1000 1978-79 mark II LTD ? So i ordered the stator from that motor, it was even Bigger then the one previous. So im lost and holding for help. Heres pictures for reference, Help me identify the motor or even better, point me in the right direction for the stator i require. Im getting a bit frustrated because im missing great riding weather.... thank you in advance,

Heres the only identifying marks on the block I could find

Best way is to first find out exactly what motor you do have.......there should be a serial number stamped right next to the oil filler port......then go to www.zedder.com and look up what you got :)

Does the stator cover say dohc or Kawasaki on the outide?
If it has Kawasaki cast into the outside id look for a 79-80 mkII or ltd stator,if it says dohc you need the older style stator which should be the larger of the 2 . :)

The motor does appear to be "KZ" and not "J". KZ motors has a kick start and J motors did not. J Motors were 81 and above. That stator was only on 79/80 KZ motors and was always the smaller size. There are only 2 sizes so if you found 3 sizes then the place you bought the stator from screwed up.

I'd return the stator, and notify the supplier of the mismatch problem.
