No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI'm pretty new to the motorcycle maintenance game and have been scouring the internet for a kz 550 ltd 1894 voltage regulator. The one that was previously on it was a mitsubishi Ts10br1k-L that seems to have fallen off of the face of earth. I ran into forum that told me this regulator, would work as a replacement but it doesn't have a red/white wire.

Out of frustration I purchased it anyway and hooked it up and now I'm blowing fuses. I'm not sure what that wire does can anyone inform me?
That being said is there an easy fix or do I actually need to shell out $120 for a new replacement part?

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationWhy would someone recommend that when there are so many more options that are far more closely related. Probably any 3-phase KZ reg/rec after 1981 would work.

That reg/rec in the link doesn't even seem to have enough wires to work as a 3-phase, at least not on a KZ.

Get a used Ninja 250 reg/rec. They work perfectly and you just have to splice the wires. The wires will all be the right colors. Something like this:

You need a reg/rec with 3 yellows, one brown, one black, and one red/white. THe red/white might be just red or just white. It is the main positive output wire.

Without a wiring diagram, there's no way to know what the other maker's used for wire colors. KZ reg/recs use black as ground. Honda often used black as positive 12v. If that's what your reg/rec is using, then that might explain the fuses blowing.

According to the x-ref at Kawasaki.com, the 84 550 has the same voltage regulator as a number of late 80s thru 2009 models, including the Ninja 250/500 and Vulcan 500 up to 2009. (pretty sure).

For my 81 650-CSR. I installed one from a low mileage 2007 Ninja 500 (~$25 on eebbaayy).
It is virtually identical to the stock R/R that was on my bike - same fitment & wire colors.
3 yellow wires --- Red/White power wire --- Black ground wire --- Brown sensor wire.
I had to replace the wire terminal pins & swap out the connector. Easy if you have the correct tools --- open barrel crimper & terminal pin extractor. Maybe not necessary on the 84 550-F2?
