Front Brake switch was created by mopguy
I have purchased an after market front brake master cylinder from E-bay for a 1981 KZ1000 Ltd., and it has the brake light switch already attached to it, I was wondering if my existing wire harness and switch come apart so that I can connect the wires to the new switch, or do I need to run new wires? I don't want to screw up an OEM switch if it does not come apart.

I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Mopguy, I am going to stick my neck out this one and may be completely off track. I purchased one of those eBay M/C for my KZ900 and did not use the switch. In my case, the front brakes use a pressure switch mounted on the front brake distribution block (or what ever its called). It senses the pressure in the fluid (fluid actually pushes on it) when you pull on the front brake lever and turns on the rear break light. Now if the set up has changed by the time the 81 models came along and they went to a lever switch, then ignore everything I just said.

The brake light switch and wiring harness of the 81 looks like one solid piece, and it clips on to the master cylinder at the bottom. The new master cylinder has the switch already attached and it has two male connectors for the wires to go on. I thought that maybe I could take the switch and harness apart without breaking it and attach the brown and blue wire to the new switch, and not having to run new wires.

Problem solved! I was going to make my own wiring harness, but after looking in E-Bay under KZ front brake switches/wires, I found a wiring harness that is for a front brake switch for an 83 KZ1000 Police model for $19.99, that will fit perfectly , I guess the master cylinder I bought is for a KZ1000 Polce modesl
