Please put your wire Colors into your post.
The Black and Yellow stripe wire are the ground, which go to the negative post. The Red and white striped wire goes to the positive post.
Use your meter to verify that the battery is charged correctly, while rare they can be reversed charged, so the current is back wards. Then the Positive marked post will be negative and the negative positive. It only takes a dead battery and to hook the charger up backwards.

The 1980 KZ750 LTD at hand could be a twin KZ750-G1 (LTD II), or it might be a 4 cyl KZ750-H1 (LTD).
