I usually have to wedge a large screwdriver in between the starter and case, then tap the screwdriver with a rubber mallet.

Thanks, I've tried with the biggest screwdriver I have, but will persist. As long as I'm not missing something like another hidden screw.

Ok, I've got it out thanks. It was really stuck tight, loads of crap in the bay even.

I've taken it to bits and it was so filthy inside, so hopefully that all it is. I'm gonna order repair kit and will keep this thread updated with progress.

Thanks

I snapped the circlip on the outside, so will need a new one.

Does anyone know whether I should get a new circlip in the pack I've ordered, and if not what size it is so I can order a new one?

Pulled it to bits again, used the old brushes and works a treat. New brushes were slightly different so must have caused an issue. Plenty left on old bushes anyway - about 10mm long, service limit is 6mm according to manual.

Check out my blog in my sig for a video of me firing it up for the first time.
