STRANDED, please help!

So I am stranded with what I believe is because of an overcharging issue. After 150 miles at 75 mph, bike died, battery was very hot, zero voltage. After the batt cooled down, now I have a voltage of 16 volt, Fuses not blown but none of the light etc work. Bike is a 79 ltd 1000. Currently in Lebanon, MO, 1,000 mls away from home. Towing called but any advice appreciated, need to getit fixed somehow....

Nothing you didn't already know but you need a new voltage regulator and probably a new battery.

Perhaps somebody closer will chime in.

Ok thx. Can someone tell me how to test the regulator (and which one is te regulator and which one the rectifier), also if I just get a replacement that won't solve the overcharging issue, any recommendations? Should I get one of those combined reg/rec.? Thanks everyone, need a beer now.....

I have had very good luck with parts from these folks. They even provide a 1 year warranty on their electrical parts. Their diagnostic flow chart is good too.

Thanks guys, Headed back to my bike now. Z1enterprises told me they can overnight a reg/rec to me, so will run some tests this morning and hope I can figure it out. Wish me luck!
