Headlight reserve unit
04 Apr 2014 07:02
When I first got the bike the headlight worked fine. About a week later I noticed the headlight indicator would come on and then go off, now it stays on and low beam doesn't work. I can see it barely glowing but not bright enough to see with, high beam is fine. I tried 2 new bulbs and they did the same thing. I ordered another reserve unit, and it still does not change anything. I have tried to chace down connections and don't know where to go from here. Any help?

If needed, this link from KZr's FILEBASE will enable downloading the wiring diagram of A1 model which is probably the same or close enough to help tracing loss in voltage from the battery+ post to the three-prong headlight socket connector inside the headlight shell.

Reserve Lighting Unit Bypass
Remove the Reserve Lighting Unit, then jumper the blue wire to the blue/yellow wire on the RLU(Reserve Lighting Unit) harness connector. That will bypass the Reserve Lighting Unit.

Thanks MFolks that got me hi and low beams. Would I be correct in assuming that means my reserve unit is bad?

Probably, as electronic units have a limited life.

have a potentially silly question as a follow/up to this thread.
If I am having the reverse output ----
IE - my low beam works, and my high beam is a slight glow and a slight hum.... and when the high beam is switched on, the indicator light does not light up...
upon bypassing the reserve lighting unit - I get no light to the bulb.
Would this imply that my reserve lighting unit is operational, and my headlight bulb needs replacing?
The FSM seems to agree with me, but I am a noobie.
