Help! Dyna s ignition. was created by Geeebeee
Hi all, I am progressing well with fixing up my 1980 kz ltd. And currently going over the wiring loom and checking bits and pieces, P.O has done lots of suspect work. My current issue is that I removed the plate with pick up/pulsing coils mounted on it and did some replacement of cabling ( Due to multiple poorly done joins etc.) I tested the ohms on both before beginning and they were ok 450 app. However after replacing cables one coil is showing open circuit even when tested right at where the cables enter the unit itself. I suspect this pulsing coil was at the point of failure anway.
My question is can I buy replacement after market pick up coils anywhere as they are listed as obselete. Or alternatively can I buy and fit a dyna s replacement unit (are they available for my model?). And is there anything I should be aware of when swapping out.
I am based in Australia so will have a wait on delivery.
Thanks in advance and here is a pic of my bike, nearly finished and very anxious to get it running now.

Dyna-S is the quick and easy remedy, and doesn't use the igniter (which might also be or become a suspect component).

The stock ignition is a good design, but purchasing any used replacement parts for it would be a crap-shoot.

Z1 Enterprises is a good source for Dyna-S, and would also get a set of the Dyna solid core plug wires with integrated caps, and new ignition coils.

The Dyna-S likely requires higher ohm ignition coils than the stock coils used with the stock igniter ignition. The green 3 ohm Dyna coils are recommended.
However, Z1E also has less expensive 4 ohm ignition coils that will serve just fine, and which I believe have integrated plug wires that also require caps.

Very reasonable pricing and best service on the planet:

Per kawasaki.com, the "pulsing coil" assembly part number [strike]59026-1012 was used on various Kawasaki models through 1995.[/strike] is 59026-1009.

Can google the part number to locate a source.

EDIT -- correct part number is 59026-1009

Thanks Patton,

I remember checking partzilla the other day and thought my part no. Was 59026-1009 did a quick check on eBay at the time and did not show much. I am currently at work - working hard:-) so will do some more research tonight , thanks again for your informative responses and I suspect I may have to go the dyna s option, I will check my coil rating tonight.

Thanks, I have a kawasaki service manual and have used many of the links in loudvhx signature already to help me get this far, along with the wealth of knowledge from the regular contributors to this forum.

Somewhat confused, Title depicts a Dyna-S ignition or is this the stock ignition... ?

Is your frame -> engine optimally grounded (battery (-) potential....?
Ignition plate ground is through the plate to engine contact...

If Dyna components, have you performed the static test...?
Will inform you if pickups are working or not...

Sorry for creating confusion, my bike currently has the stock transistorised ignition system fitted however one pulsing coil has failed creating the need to get replacement original part (obselete) or switch to the dyna s system.
I chose the title dyna s for the post in order to attract responses from those who have used these or have advice on using.
I have done a test on my coils and get a reading of 3 ohms , they may have been replaced with coils from another model? So I will go ahead and order a dyna s unit today.
Thanks again everyone.
