dyna coils on kz750h2
20 Mar 2014 21:20
hey all, quick question.
im mounting on some dyna-dual grey (2.2 ohm) which i have checked and they are proper. the problem im running into is that iv gotten the coils mounted to the coil-brackets with just an extra washer i had laying around to make it nice, but now when i go to mount the bracket to the frame my coils hit the tube-frame and cause the mounting screws to not go in straight.
does anyone know of a quick fix for this? i was thinking maybe some "L" brackets but have to make sure it will clear the tank than since the coils will be rotated 90* causing the wires to come out of the coils horizontally not vertically.
BIKE: 1981 KZ750 H2 (stock ignition other than coils/wires)(pod filter w/V&H exhaust)
hope that wasnt too confusing lol
if needed i can throw up some pictures tomorrow after i stop by the shop.
thanks in advance.

Here's a topic with a photo or two. The link in one of my replies has pics as well.
KZR - Mounting Dyna Coils
I ending up making brackets from aluminum angle bar from the Home Depot.
Here's a photo of my first attempt.

Keep an eye on the lower primary wire, as the threads of the fasteners can cut through the wire insulation, and ground it out. Maybe a star lock washer will prevent it from working loose.

I used locking nuts.
The homemade brackets weren't that hard to make... I used a miter saw & cordless drill. Mine are fitted close to the frame, sorta similar to the way the stock coils fit. I offset the mounting holes to gain better clearance for the plug wire towers.
