1978 KZ750B - Ignition Switch Replacement was created by pazzadelivery
I picked up a '78 KZ750 last week, and I am in the process of working on it. My buddy pointed out that the key I got was not a kawasaki key, and upon testing with the key to my shed we realized any key that was thin enough would turn the ignition. I found a new ignition switch on amazon. Has anyone replaced one of these before, or has a page in the manual on how to remove the old ignition switch?

On most of Kawasaki's that vintage, to remove and re-install the ignition switch, is pretty simple"
1. Disconnect the Negative battery cable from the battery.
2. Remove the headlight from the housing.
3. Loosen the headlight housing bolts & rotate it down as far as possible.
4. Remove any plastic shrouds/coverings around the ignition switch where it mounts on the instrument panel.
5. Trace back and if possible make a map of where the ignition switch wires go, some bike's have a connector, others may have individual wires going to the main harness.
6.There should be two(2) Allen head screws holding the ignition switch to the triple tree, accessed from the bottom.
7. Re-assemble in reverse, Don't forget the Negative battery cable

I went to work on it, and it is all very simple except the darn connector. The thing absolutely will not let go of the old ignition switch, it is like it is cemented on. Here is a picture of the piece, any idea how to disconnect them?

Look close and see if there is a snap tab that has to be compressed to let it slide off.
