Hello all,

I just got a 1982 KZ750 N1 Spectre. It needs a lot of work and is missing a few parts (brake pedal, shift pedal, pegs, entire headlamp assembly other small items.). I am attempting to get it started and wanted a little direction. I have purchased a new battery and will hook it up today. I was looking at a manual and there is supposed to be a sensor that plugs into the battery to indicate the charge. That part is missing and I could not figure out if it is necessary or if it can be left off. Any suggestions will do. Also, since the bike has sat for several years, was looking for a list of "must do first's" to get it started. My plan was to remove and clean the carbs, fill it with oil, jerry rig a fuel source and give it a try. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

If it's been sitting for years you may want to remove the cam cover and put some oil on the cams and top end. Also, it probably wouldn't hurt to spritz some lube through the spark plug holes onto the cylinder walls which may be bone dry. Ed

Drain the oil and replace with clean oil. Take the spark plugs out and use the kick starter to turn the engine over for about five minutes to get the engine pumped up full of oil.

Take the gas tank off and dump and rinse with clean gas or solvent.

The wire went to a sensor in the battery, no longer supported. Just wire it to a 12V wire, which is hot when the key is ON and you will be fine.

Thanks all.. Will take the advice. Ran into another problem.. the fuze box is missing fuzes and the size/amp is not listed in the box so I am not sure which size fuzes use as replacements. Any suggestions?

If I was you I'd try to find some-one with the same bike and ask them.
There's a guy on here, Spectre 1982, maybe worth a try.
Good luck :)

After you get the bike running and looking good, you will likely want to get an AGM sealed battery to prevent acid spills corrosion etc., so you won't need the acid level detector.

Wire it like Koolaid said, and you'll be good to go.
