What is the gauge size of the main starter wire going from starter to solenoid? The sizes look the same on my KZ550 and my KZ1000

I bumped mine up to 6 gauge on both Postive and Negitive wires.

Stock is 8 gauge.

14 gauge for regulator wire.

For much better current flow(amps), go up to 6 AWG (American Wire Gauge) welding cable, as it's more flexible. You'll need the correct wire terminals, with the proper hole sizes for this "Upgrade".

I've got one of these, they are a little pricey, but I can make my own larger gauge cables for my car or bike: www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=hydraulic+crimper

The fine strands of copper in the welding lead make it really good for battety cables, ive seen batteries that were almost dead flat whip over a starter with those cables. :)
