Dyna coils or stock replacement? was created by HAFROD
At Z1 the stock replacement coil set is $105. The Dyna coils are around $150. I have the Dynas in my 78 KZ1000. Is it worth paying the extra money for the Dyna coils? The stock replacements come with wires and boots?

The Dynas will deliver a hotter spark. If you have to replace, upgrade. I prefer to use the Dyna suppression wires and forgo the individual expensive suppression caps.

Dyna should match what ever ignition you want to run.

Hi half rod..I've been over this with a few people here and it seems to me if your running say a dyna s ignition . Its best to go with the green dyna coils..I had stock style coils that ohmed at 4.5 and ran with the dyna s. But I got better performance with the coils that matched the ignition.. so stock coils with 4.5 ohm. Should go with points and condenser's....HAFROD wrote: At Z1 the stock replacement coil set is $105. The Dyna coils are around $150. I have the Dynas in my 78 KZ1000. So the Dyna coils is just like putting an MSD ignition system on your race car. Usually a hotter ignition will let you go up in jetting a bit. Is this sound about right? Sounds like a good upgrade for not much more money. Since I have not heard my KZ run and most of it came in a big tote, I'm just going to buy a set of coils to delete any future headaches. My coils look like the originals. I probably should check the Dyna s to make sure its OK. Hopefully they have something on their website about checking it out. I did not get any paperwork with it.
