Cotten magneto for KZ1000? was created by hangedk
Hey everybody. I found a cotten magneto for the KZ1000 today, but it might need a little tlc. I've never come across magneto setups like this in person and don't know the pros and cons of them. But the combination of getting rid of the heavy old battery and the cool factor of having an old school magneto setup is kind of drawing me in. Can I get new caps, rotors, belts, etc for these anymore? Should I try to get it?

 just so you know there is no mechanical advancer on this type of magneto.... :pinch: made for the dragstrip or racing  ..... what ever timing you set it at is what you get..... cool , yes but belt , points and condensers need replacing along with the cap and coil . cotten mag's were sold in the early 70's .... can't say on availability of replacement parts. probably belts are the same for all mags of this type.... points are probably off some early 70's honda :pinch: IMO, Dyna S or a dyna 2000 is a better deal for the street..... :S set it and forget it

I couldn't get any pictures from the seller that were clear enough to tell. But he seems to think that it needs a new cap.

All right, that makes sense. I agree totally on the dyna systems. I just thought this thing was super cool, and a good conversation piece even if I don't run it.
