Does your bike have a kick starter already?

No it has no kickstart, so i "guess" that means it would suggest an engine swap?

so are you saying i should be abel to swap out/ buy/order part to convert it to kick start?
The kick start runs off the crankshaft i assume and you all so need a new housing.

what im trying to find out is, whats the easiest way of doing this, convert the motor or just swap it out?

This bike and motor will be torn down, wanted to have the topend off motor recond "hone bores, new rings, and valves and vale seats"

so it doesnt matter if its this motor or another that goes back into it

All this for a kick start 400cc displacement.... :S
Get another bike or at least engine for the bobber build (assumption).

If you feel the need to Bob it, get a 750 twin or Honda twin, any twin... I guess I'm just getting old to the point I don't get it (400/440 Bobbers).

Hell, they're a dime a dozen here in the Phoenix area (sure it's the same in your areas)...
PPL saw-zaw the rear frame off, find out they don't have a clue fab or costs, get bored, still only a 400cc displacement etc... then sell cheap as a project bike.

Ah well, WTF do I know....

You should be able to get a definitive answer at the KZ400.com site. The crankcase is probably going to have to be split to install the kick starter stuff & I think you're going to need the right side clutch cover from a KZ400 - it has the kick starter hole.

+1 to what OMR said. I had a 76 750 twin and oh boy was that thing just arely enjoyable....

Why spend all the trouble on a 400 or 440? There's none kicking around that havent been cafe'd already. For what it would take to convert just find another one, put an ad on craigslist and for a couple hundred bucks you'll have a different bike or motor
