1981 KZ 650 speedo
03 Jul 2006 21:45
not sure if this is the right forum, what less could you expect from a newbie. but here goes.
i am looking for a speedometer for a family member. he looked on ebay and went to kawasaki dealership. ebay did not have anything and the dealership wanted 500+ for it.
bike is a 1981 kawasaki KZ 650/H csr1
if i dont find it here, could someone recommend a place to look?
all suggestions welcome.
thanks in advance

I've seen speedos on the Old Bike Barn website
www.oldbikebarn.com/index.php
. I have never dealt with them so dont know how they are. I'm sure there must be a bunc of places that sell them. Hang around and someome will be along with a better suggestion than mine.

Tough break there, since the cross-reference software shows that speedo (part# 25005-1094) fitting only the '81 KZ650 CSR.
You didn't say, is the speedo in question here just not functioning, or is it missing?
If not functioning, there are places that can restore and calibrate them to spec.
Check with Bob at Z-Resto (76kz900@bellsouth.net), he's in Atlanta, GA. Prices vary depending on the year and condition of the bike the gauge is from, but average restoration runs about US$85.
I'm not 100% sure that he can restore one for an '81 KZ since he usually only restores gauges from '72~'80, but it couldn't hurt to drop him a line and ask.

all i know is that it is not working. and i told him i would try and find him some options on the net. seems like i have him a few leads.
ill throw this in here too. i guess it is a 4 carb bike? anyway after riding the bike for 20 minutes is starts to cut out and lose power. he says it feels like it is only running on 3 cyl's. anyway he thinks one of the carbs is bad and needs rebuilt, do u think he is on the right track?
thanks again guys. all suggestions appreciated.
