Like I said remove the plate and install the new ignition, no tuning, nothing. I got mine from Z1 Enterprises. I have one on my KZ900 and 650.

Really???

Here's the electronic ignition for the KZ650 that Z1 Enterprises offers. $425 and it includes all the parts needed as martin_csr pointed out. Don't misunderstand; I have no grudge against electronic ignition, but for that much money I could buy enough points and condensers to last more than 100,000 miles.

I installed a Dyna-S on my '77 KZ1000 and never looked back. My '82 already electronic ignition, so there's no reason to 'upgrade' that one, but installing the Dyna-S was one of the best upgrades I ever did. Simple, straightforward, easy-to-do (in front of the dorm in the parking lot), and worth every minute and dollar.

Dyna recommends using 3 ohm coils with that unit. Are you using the stock KZ650 4 ohm coils without any problems? Ed

Checking the site, this kit is made for KZ550 and up. Will there be a compatibility issue with the kz400?

Dyna-S is for four cylinder bikes.

There was an article on here the other day about a guy that's selling a 2 cylinder electronic ignition. It works like the Dyna, but is for twins.

When I first installed it on my 650 I had stock coils, I changed them later, but not becuase it didn't run properly, one of the plug wires got damaged and they are permanently attached to stock coils. My 900 still has stock coils.

Call Z1, if there is anything for your bike they will know, and most likely have it in stock

For anyone interested, I just got off the phone with Z1 and the guy over there (Rob) said that they don't make them for the kz400, but he's heard of people modding the 750 to fit. Said I'd have to do some digging and it wouldn't be a straight swap out. He also mentioned Newtronics as an option, but didn't know if they made them for the 400 either. Going to just get the points plate from themotorcyclepartsoutlet.com

Thanks for all your help! You guys have all been great. Hopefully, when I start tinkering and screw something up, I can come here for some guidance on cleaning up my mess!

Good luck. Is your KZ400 blue by any chance, I saw one on the west side highway the other day?
