Electronic Ignition Conversion

Looking for some guidance in converting to electronic ignition on my 1982 KZ1000 K2-LTD.
Any suggestions, DIY guides, previous forums (I did search a bit) related to my specific model they would be appreciated. I'm fairly mechanically inclined and have a decent amount of experience in figuring things out as I go but when it comes to electronics I'm less familiar. I'm hoping its a matter of remove 'this part' replace 'that part' and a few wire connections, especially helpful would be a list of components needed.

Thanks!

Howdy. I believe your bike has a mechanical timing advancer - it's the only serviceable part --> you should clean & lubricate it. The factory manual has the specifics. I don't know the best lubricant to use - white lithium & dielectric grease didn't seem to work very good as they evaporated or something -->> my advancer became dried out. I used high-temp wheel bearing grease last spring - I haven't had the pulsing coil cover off since to check it, so only time will tell how that worked.

Something else you can do is redo the spark plug wire connections. At the coils unscrew the ribbed compression boots. If the wires don't come off, untwist them from the coils.

The Kawasaki electronic ignition is good, but the stock coils are supposedly the weak link (some experienced Kaw mechanics say they weren't that great when new). There are aftermarket coils available - Accel & Dyna are a couple.
