testing igniter and coil on 81 kawaski 750 ltd

been trying to check to see if igniter went bad on me. currently i have no spark going to spark plugs. i think i tested pick up correctly. i want to test coils to make sure they are good. there is a red wire that go to both coils a green to one side and a black to the other. i have voltage going to them from red wire. i also appear to have voltage at green and black. how do i test igniter and coil.

You should get a spark just by tapping the center of the pickup with a screwdriver.

But coils must have a complete path for the spark or you can damage the coils or ignition. Spark path goes from one plug wire to the other on a given coil. The path does not necessarily have to go through the motor, but it does need to go from plug wire to the other.
