Starting clutch rattles? was created by car5car
I went to bike shop and was told that rattling sound is from starting clutch (3 rollers, 3 springs)
Sound diappears, when RPM increased to 1200.
Is that a common problem, who had that or knows about it?

Does it rattle when cranking it over to start or is the rattle there when running. If it is there only when cranking then I would say it is the starter clutch. If it rattles while running then it is not the starter clutch but probably the primary chain. It will rattle when the carbs are not synched correctly or the idle is set to low.
On another note if the shop you are taking it to tells you it is a starter clutch while the engine is running and not while cranking then I would not go back to them.

I had the exact same problem with my 1100-D1. Starter worked fine and only made klunking and clanging sounds after bike started, up to about 1800 RPM. It sounded the same as the engine noise you hear around 400 rpm. The last guy to play with the assembly never put thread locker on the three screws that hold the clutch to the back of the flywheel (part 19 in your drawing). The screws were loose and stripped, but held the clutch in place like pins would. they could not back all the way out because the starter gear was too near the assembly. After about 1800 RPM centrifugal force keeps things quiet. My bike sounds normal now. If your set up is the same, and it looks it in the drawing, sounds like your mechanic was right after all.

I would check to see if the 3 allen head bolts are loose on the back of the starter clutch :S they used to loosen on the big block turbo till I used green loctite on them...... always made a clacking noise till it got to like 2,ooo rpm :pinch:
