New voltage regulator/rectifier - suggestions? was created by martin_csr
1981 KZ650-CSR w 3-phase charging system (3 yellow wires coming from the alternator).
Any suggestion for a new reg-rec?
Mine may be bad, as I'm getting more than 15VDC @ 4,000 rpms.
Some of the options: Electrosport, RicksMotorSportElectrics, OregonMotorcycleParts, Caltric, & another one that I don't know the mfg (#RR-16). At various sites prices range from $45 to $120. Thanks.

Oregon motorcycle seems to have a good warrenty. I'd use them if the cost isn't too much.

Thanks. I overlooked their 2 year warranty. A couple of the others are only 1 yr.

I bought my replacement rectifier from Oregon - it works perfectly. Ed

If yours is the type with the brown wire, make sure the brown wire is always near the same voltage as the battery. If not, that can cause the overcharging symptom. The regulator compensates for losses in the wiring by putting extra voltage to the battery.
Last year I got one (3-phase, with brown wire) from a late-2000's Ninja 250. The plug is different, but the reg/rec seemed to be exactly the same. It's been working great. I think I paid around $25 on Fleabay.
It should go without saying, but for anyone searching this... avoid any used ones that are more than 15 years old. Their time will be short.

Thanks. Mine does have the brown wire, so I will check that. I haven't done anything other than to do the battery checks. The Ninja reg-rec seems to be a very good option - the wiring is virtually identical to the 650-CSR. neato.
