Well and update is needed I think. Ive been working with my girlfriends dad who used to be a motorcycle mechanic and he's helping me with most of it and I think i've got everything pretty much figured out. Thanks for all your responses and there is only one more question that I have.

I don't have an airbox as it did not come with the motorcycle and did not notice till her father pointed it out.
Question is....I have seen people run without it and say you don't need it. I know some people have pods and some airbox and some run neither at all so is it ok if I run without it? I know it wont be what the bike is used to but Im guessing its been running like this for a few thousand miles.

It is more than that, Motor Head, they need the restriction. The air to fuel ratio is carefully determined when the engine is designed. Too much air, they run too lean. Too lean = poor performance, then a hole in the top of the piston. This is why you must rejet when you install a set of pods. When you have no filter or restriction what so ever, you have no idea how to jet the engine. It needs either the stock air box or pods and a rejet.

Why WD-40 Should Not Be Used On Motorcycle Electrical Items.

For many years, I was proponent of the use of WD-40 on fuse clips, fuses, switches and connectors. After hearing of other peoples experience with intermittent and sporadic activity, I shrugged it off as maybe they did something wrong in the application of the product.

It wasn’t until the time I rode my 1982 GPz1100 B2 model to downtown San Diego that I encountered the problems others had gone through.

After concluding my business downtown, I walked to where my bike was parked, turned the key to unlock the forks, and prepared to start the engine. The key was in the "On" position, yet I had no lights in the dash panel, the fuel pump was not running(I have FI), and the horn and tail light were not working.

Puzzled as to why nothing electrical was happening, I remember my earlier conversations about how WD-40 will over time become a non-conductor(more like an insulator). I had some pieces of 400 and 600 grit sandpaper in my tool kit and with them was able to scratch away the coating from the WD-40 on the fuses and clips.

After removing the insulating film, the bike started and ran like it should. Since that time, I’ve told people about the problem with WD-40. If you must use a contact cleaner, I recommend getting some "De-oxit" DN5 from Radio Shack Stores or any good electronic supply store.

www.deoxit.com is their website.

the absolute best thing you can use to lube old plastic switches is
tire kleen from barnes distributing
ive also used other tire shine products
they work wonders on old plastic
SILICON
brings back more then just shine
armorall will work as well
just dont put any on your seat or your bike will fuck right off on you all by itself without you on it
and you ll be left standing there woundering how far it will actually ride all by itself until it decides to run into that cement light pole at 35 mph and DESTROY itself

Thanks for the info on the airbox but sadly I can't find any on ebay and was wondering if there is some DIY thing I could do so that it doesn't kill the engine till I can get a real air box. Any ideas? Ive heard some people use a cotton shirt and things like that.

I know the airbox and pods would be best but is there any other alternatives?
